How often should I feed my axolotl?

We usually get our axolotls when they are 2-3 months old. At this age they should be feed twice a day for example Breakfast and Dinner.

At 3 months you can already begin to give chopped up Dendrobaena worms or Night Crawlers. The pieces must be chopped as small as the distance between your axolotl's eyes so it's easy for them to eat. You can still give them blood worms occasionally as a treat.

At around 5-6 months you can begin to feed once a day and stop chopping your worms. You can also introduce new food like pellets and grub pie or meat pie.

Spending time to feed and observing your axolotl will tell you how much you can feed them and how often. When they become adult and if you feed worms they can be full and not want food for a couple of days so you can feed 3-4 times a week.

As for myself I still prefer to feed Gary everyday because feeding him is a real pleasure and a bonding time for us. I feed him a lower quantity but everyday so I can interact with him.

There is no rules really as long as your axolotl look and eat healthy.

For some guidance, a male tummy should be as wide as his head not more, as for a female she is naturally more chubby than a male and her tummy should be bigger than her head but not too much. When females are gravid (full of eggs), they will sometimes skip meal, which is completely normal.

I hope this helped you!
