So you're considering having an axolotl, great! But how much do they cost?
Well if you're opting for the most common one, Leucistic (Like Gary), Albino or Wild I will be pretty cheap around 10-15$/£
For other Moprhe the price can go from 30 to 800 or more for the rarest like Mosaic.
But let's take Gary's case. He was 14£ which is pretty cheap for all this cuteness!
He himself doesn't cost much but it's what's around him that's gonna add up and you can not take the cheapest way it would definitely hurt him.
So what do you NEED, what is the minimum you could spend on an axolotl.
The Tank, you can buy a new thank or you can always take a second hand tank but make sure to clean, disinfect and check if the tank still water tight.
Then you might need a stand or cabinet to put the aquarium on, then the filter, substrate (optional as you can go bare bottom), decorations and hides (mandatory), water conditioner, or RODI unit (way more expensive but your water will be 100% safe) for a RODI unit you'll need a remineraliser like seachem replenish, then you'll have to change your RODI filters.
You'll also need a water test (the drop one not the stripes one because they are not accurate)
Something to start your cycle like pure ammonia. Tubs for when your axolotl will be sick.
A Pump or Syphon for water change. A thermometre to check if your axolotl is in the right temperature and a fan to cool down the water. Food like live worms or pellets.
So there you have it, it's the minimum.
How much will those cost depends on which country you live in. You can not buy the cheapest material for your axolotl as it could put him/her in danger.
For example no stripes test, only drop test as the stripes are not accurate, you won't be able to know your parameters which is really important for an axolotl. You also have to make sure that everything that goes in your tank is aquarium safe.
